The Wedding People

This was a book that truly and honestly had me rolling my eyes the whole time I read. It stars a main character, Phoebe, who checks into a fancy hotel room to commit suicide after her husband left her for a coworker and the subsequent death of her cat. Also occurring at the hotel was an extravagant wedding week, supposedly open to wedding guests (& Phoebe) only.

After revealing her ultimate mission to the Bride-to-be, her plan was thwarted as she began to fear ruining the wedding of an innocent couple. Before she knew it, she’d been whisked away into the wedding party quickly earning the title of Maid of Honor.

Once she’s closer to “the Wedding People,” she begins to see the occasion as it really is.

I honestly don’t even want to discuss this book; I disliked it that much. I hate the idea of a 38 year old woman being afraid to communicate with her own husband of 10 years. I hate the idea of a woman too meager to ask for what she wants.

I hate the idea of a woman who is drawn to suicide because she’s single and only realizes that life is worth living after a singular conversation with a man.

I hate the fact that she credits Gary for so much when really it was Lila who saved her life.

I hate that she allowed her ex-husband to sleep with her and spend the night.

I hate how Lila and Gary wasted everyone’s time all to cancel this wedding.

I hate how long it took them to do break up when neither of them wanted to marry each other in the first place.

Infuriating read, don’t waste your time.
